We embrace the Jewish imperative placing health and safety as the highest of priorities in our camp community. Decreasing vulnerability to vaccine preventable illnesses is one fundamental strategy we employ to help sustain the health of our camp community. We want to ensure that everyone attending camp this summer meets the most recent vaccination recommendations set by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Routine vaccination of all campers is a vital public health issue in the residential environment of summer camp with round-the-clock communal living. Please check your child's medical and vaccination records or consult your child's physician to ensure that all of the required immunizations listed below have been provided and are up to date.

Vaccination Addition: Bacterial Meningitis In 2017, a camper at a Jewish summer camp in Pennsylvania tragically passed away from bacterial meningitis. In Summer 2018, after speaking with other professionals in the field and our medical staff, we decided to make the meningitis vaccine mandatory for all campers attending Sprout Lake. Please speak with your child’s pediatrician about this and reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have.

The current CDC vaccine schedule can be viewed here.

Camp Sprout Lake requires that the following vaccinations be up-to date for all participants:

  • For children up through the age of 11:
    • Menactra (Meningococcal) – given to all campers – 1 dose
    • DTaP/DT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) – 5 doses
    • MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella) – 2 doses
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox) Vaccine – 2 doses (recommendation for 2ND dose began in 2006)
  • For children 11 and older (completion of the above series, PLUS):
    • Tdap (Pertussis, Tetanus) - 1 dose between ages 11–12

Strongly recommended:

Hepatitis A – 2 doses strongly recommend although not required for camp attendance.

For campers undergoing catch-up vaccination, the doses noted above may not be indicated or sufficient; please discuss specific immunization catch-up strategies with your child’s health-care provider. The vaccination of all members of our community is essential in order to establish a safe camp environment for your child. We thank you for your timely attention to these requirements.
